Thank you so much for the opportunity to experience this wonderful show! My husband has been in the field and stationed 4 hours away from us for the past 3 years. We didn't have much time to spend together or with our 4 children individually. Getting these tickets allowed me to have a great one-on-one ticket with my oldest daughter. We spent the day wandering around the city and enjoying the show. Thank you, thank you so much for helping to create an amazing memory for my daughter and me. It was a great break from the craziness of soldiering and military life! Thank you one more time! The attached photo is my daughter Sofia!

Thanks to Madison Square Garden for the tickets to the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall. My 8 year old daughter wanted to see this show and you helped us make it a wonderful experience. I am currently serving in the United States Army Reserve. I was deployed away from her in 2014-15. and I will be deployed again in 2017. It is important to build good memories with your family between deployments and you have helped us achieve that goal. Merry Christmas to your company and staff.

NEW YORK (AP) - A dancer born with one arm is the first person with a visible disability to be hired by New York's famed Radio City Rockettes.

"I don't want to be known as a one-armed dancer, and not because that's a bad thing," Sydney Mesher, who joined the Rockettes this season, told Newsday. "But because I worked really hard to be where I am."

The Pace University graduate from Portland, Oregon was drafted by the Rockets after her fourth try. She said she has been "enthralled" with the group, which dates back to 1925, since she first saw them on television in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Mesher said she started dancing as a child and attended a performing arts school. In Radio City's Christmas extravaganza, viewers caught up in the show may not notice she's missing an arm, although there are minor changes to the acting to accommodate this. In one number where the Rockettes ring a bell in each hand, she only rings one.

Karen Keeler, the Rockettes' creative director, called Mesher "an incredibly versatile dancer with a strong work ethic." Keeler called Mesher "smart and determined, with an eye for detail." The Rockettes are an American precision dance group. They were founded in 1925 in St. Louis and since 1932 (91 years ago) (1932) they have been performing at Radio City Music Hall in New York. Until 2015, they also had a tourism company. They are best known for starring in Radio City's Christmas Spectacular, an annual Christmas show, and for performing every year since 1957 in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

There have been over 3,000 women who have performed as the Rockettes since the New York Christmas Spectacular opened in 1933.

The Rockettes were originally inspired by the Tiller Girls, a British precision dance group founded by John Tiller in the 1990s. Tiller was the first group of Tiller Girls to appear in the United States in 1900, with possibly three lines operating on Broadway.

In 1922, choreographer Russell Markert saw one of these groups, known as the Tiller Rockets, perform at the Ziegfeld Follies and was inspired to create his own version with American dancers.

As Markert later recalled, "If I ever got a chance to get a group of American girls who were taller and had longer legs and could do really complicated tap-and-eyeball routines, they would really knock your socks off." "

They were originally called the Missouri Rockets. After impresario Roxy brought them to New York for his Roxy Theatre, they were called the Roxyettes. They would later become the Rockettes, after Roxy and Radio City Music Hall broke up.

The Rockettes have long been recognized by the American Entertainment Artists Association (AVGA). In 1967, they went on a one-month strike for better working conditions,

In August 2002, negotiations for the veteran cast led to a buyout by the owners of Radio City Music Hall. About a quarter of the veteran Rockettes were invited to retire, while the remaining dancers were offered a chance to re-audition.

The justification for this policy was that such a woman would distract from the ensemble appearance of the dance troupe.

The first African-American rocket was Jennifer Jones; drafted in 1987, debuted in 1988 at halftime of Super Bowl XXIII.

The first person with a visible disability hired by the Rockettes (Sydney Mesher, missing his left arm due to symbrachydactyly) was hired in 2019.

From 2002-2019, the Rockettes hosted a dance training program called the Rockettes Summer Intensive. This week-long choreography program offered potential dancers the opportunity to rehearse with current Radio City Rockettes and choreographers and learn choreography from the Rockettes repertoire. Since its inception, nearly 100 dancers from this program have become Rockettes.

In late 2016, Madison Square Garden, which manages the troupe, agreed to have the Rockettes perform at Donald Trump's inauguration.

Including Rockette Phoebe Pearl who complained she was forced to perform at the inauguration against her will.
