Uss Oklahoma Bb37 - USS Oklahoma, a 27,500-ton Nevada-class ship, was built in Camden, New Jersey, USA. She was commissioned in May 1916 and generally operated in the Atlantic for the next five years. In mid-1918, Oklahoma moved to European waters to protect convoys. Later that year and in June 1919, he accompanied President Wilson on his visits to and from France. In 1921, the battleship sailed into the Pacific, visiting the west coast of South America before joining the Pacific Fleet. For ten years he served with the Oklahoma Combatant Fleet in various training, exercises and Naval Affairs. Fleet took part in a Pacific cruise to Australia and New Zealand in mid-1925. In the summer of 1927, she transported Naval Academy Midshipmen from the east to the west coast on their annual training cruise.

Oklahoma was modernized at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1927-29, with her appearance significantly altered and her combat capability greatly improved. After a brief stint with the Reconnaissance Fleet, she returned to the Pacific in mid-1930 and resumed her participation in Battle Fleet activities. In July 1936, the Oklahoma was sent to Europe to evacuate US citizens and others during the Spanish Civil War. It joined the Pacific Fleet later that year.

In 1940, the Oklahoma base was moved from the west coast of the United States to Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He was at Pearl Harbor when the Japanese attacked on December 7, 1941. While anchored aboard USS Maryland (BB-46), she was hit by multiple Japanese Type 91 aerial torpedoes. With her port side open for most of her length, Oklahoma quickly capsized and sank to the bottom of the harbor, losing more than 400 of her crew. Many of the men trapped in her overturned hull were freed by the great efforts of Sailors and Navy civilians.

During 1943, the Oklahoma was the subject of a major salvage effort to raise, repair damage, and stay afloat. At the end of the year, it is dry enough to remove weapons and other equipment and is not sufficiently waterproof. Too old and too damaged to return to service, Oklahoma was officially decommissioned in September 1944. Sold for scrap in December 1946, but sank in May 1947 en route from Hawaii to California.
