On Tuesday, the Massachusetts Office of Administration and Finance also revealed that a state website will be launched to help people determine whether they qualify for payments. The checks are included in the COVID-19 Essential Employee Premium Payment Program, which was passed by the Massachusetts Legislature and signed by Governor Charlie Baker in December 2021.
Eligibility for the second round of payments mirrors the first round, "but the criteria have been updated for annual changes in the minimum wage and federal poverty level calculations," the state said.
Individuals are eligible for the payment if their earned income in 2021 is at least $13,500 and their total income is at or below 300 percent of the federal poverty level. The lower end of this range is equivalent to 20 hours of work per week for 50 weeks at minimum wage starting in 2021 ($13.50).
The federal poverty level is set by the federal government and increases with household or family size, according to the state.
